We are watching a eye-opening drama unfold at Duke University. Earlier this week, Duke announced that at 1pm on Friday of each week a 3-minute Muslim call to prayer would be broadcast from its campus chapel tower.
Duke, a Methodist university in its origins, was allowing this Muslim practice in the name of “religious pluralism.”
This is the same university that a few years ago kicked Chick-fil-A off its campus because of the “intolerant” remarks of its president Dan Cathy with respect to a biblical view of marriage.
Here’s the picture: while evangelical, biblical Christianity is being suppressed in the name of liberal open-mindedness, groups such as Islam are being given the open door! It is mind-boggling.
As of this writing, Duke has reversed its decision to allow the Muslim call to prayer. But, the furor goes on. We have a dramatic clash of kingdoms taking place in our world. Jesus spoke of it in Matthew 24 when He said, “kingdoms shall rise against kingdom” (Matt. 24:7). It is a battle to the death between darkness and light.
Duke is but one skirmish. It is time for us to be about the work of Christ’s kingdom. The battle is joined.
