A New Home

Thursday, December 12, 2019

Today marks the end of a 6-month transition. At 8am, Martha and I will meet the movers at our new home and they will deposit all our worldly possessions in 2208 Dewland Court. (I am writing now at 6am in the breakfast area of a nearby Hampton Inn)

Monday at 10am, a crew of six arrived at our former home in Monroe. I must say these six from Atlas Van Lines were marvelous. They worked HARD — all day until 6:30pm — handling our “stuff” with speed yet consummate care. That includes all our furniture, my office, and the 80 boxes of books that comprise my library!

Martha and I drove away from an empty 3517 Pegram Circle at about 7:15, lumps in our throats. Though already exhausted, we hit the road making it all the way to Jackson, Mississippi before the road hit us! We could drive no further.

Tuesday brought us terrible weather, and we arrived in Augusta, Georgia for another night on the road. Yesterday about 2pm, we pulled into the drive of the new Clanton home: 2208 Dewland Court, Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. Our “stuff” will not arrive until this morning at 8.

Tonight, our transition ends. We will spend our first night in our new home.

The shock of this entire picture still hits me at times. Earlier this year, Martha and I could see no future beyond Monroe and New Life Community Church. This was OUR LIFE. I wanted only the increase and expansion of the good things that had been our life for the past 40 years.

Through details I will not belabor here God turned MY PLANS into HIS PLAN. Like a hidden subterranean river, He burst on us with plans we could not have foreseen.

Now a new day has come.
